Chapter Sixteen

~ Darian ~

S itting in the theater room with a glass of DUSSE in my hand to take the edge off, I was really starting to get fed up with Kori’s shit. Every time I thought I knew her ass, she pulled another stunt, proving I didn’t know a damn thing. I understood my lifestyle wasn’t for everybody, but I also wasn’t going to apologize for who I was. Women loved consistency, and I was trying my hardest to give her that, but she was about to see another side of me if she kept playing with my fuckin’ feelings.

“Why are you sitting in here in the dark?” Ry asked, flipping the light on.

“I’m just chilling.”

“Something is wrong; I can see it all over your face. Talk to me.” Sitting in the oversized chair beside me, she shifted her body tucking her feet underneath her hips.

“I don’t want to.”

“Why?”

“Because I don’t.”

“Don’t be rude to me. I didn’t do anything to you but holding it in isn’t going to do shit but piss you off even more. Not to mention I’m going to sit here and stare at you until you tell me, so really what choice do you have?”

My left eyebrow shot up. Ry knew better than anybody how stubborn I could be when pushed, and the way I was feeling, right now that wasn’t the best thing for her to do. “Does it have anything to do with why you left Kori sitting in your office like a lost child? By the way, she left, so don’t rush to check on her.”

“Mind your business, Ry.”

“You are my business, remember?”

“This doesn’t have anything to do with you.”

“You must really like her if you don’t even want to talk to me about it.”

“I’m about to be done with her ass.”

“Why? Y’all seemed happy as fuck a few hours ago.”

“She doesn’t know what she wants, and I’m tired of playing nice while she tries to figure it out.” Standing to my feet, I took the rest of my drink to the head. Going out with Marcus sounded like the perfect idea to get my mind off Kori.

“Can you stop talking in code and tell me what’s going on?”

“She said she wanted to take shit slow, I gave her that, but now it’s getting out of hand like I’m some type of secret. I asked her to come to the Christmas party, and her response was I don’t know about that. Maybe you should take Sidra .”

“You’re just used to these bitches kissing your ass. Now, you have somebody who doesn’t give a fuck about what you do or what you have, and you’re being a brat.”

“You tell me what woman is going to tell a man to take another woman instead of her?”

“Okay, maybe she went a little far with that one, but she’s probably afraid, D. This is a lot; it can be intimidating to somebody like Kori who lives a regular, simple, uncomplicated life.”

“I’m not going to apologize for who I am.
